![]() ![]() Minal was definitely a favourite character for me. One of my favourite things was the friendship between Minal and Sheetal. I will say some of the flourishes of it does make things kind of confusing. The writing was beautiful and very whimsical which suited the story well. But overall, it was super interesting, I just think some of the pacing could've been worked out better. There were also quite a few instances of info dumping that bogged the story down a bit. ![]() It became pretty repetitive after paragraph after paragraph of her being kind of whiny and wondering about basically everything. Most of the middle is following the main character Sheetal as she's trying to figure out a lot of things, which is understandable, but it didn't make for a pleasant reading experience. ![]() I think I would've preferred for the actual competing part to be more of the story, especially because the middle dragged a lot. It was really slow as most of the book is building up to the competition and then the competition itself wrapped up quite quickly. I found the stars to be fascinating, the star hunting aspect, and the competition and how it played out, and how the competition centred around art and the stars as muses. There were a lot of elements I really enjoyed about the story overall. It was super vibrant and whimsical and just came to life. This was a really cool debut fantasy! I absolutely adored the world and how it was brimming with Hindu culture. ![]()
